Nitrous Oxide is a naturally occurring gas that acts as a weak general anesthetic when inhaled. It has been used safely in medicine for well over a century to relieve pain during surgical procedures, labor and childbirth, and dental procedures.
The gas in PRO-NOX is a blend of nitrous oxide and pure oxygen, which offers you optimal, safe, anxiety relief without lingering side effects. Basically, the gas quickly enters your bloodstream, and quickly induces an analgesic and sedative effect. However, the gas does not bind with hemoglobin or alter any cells, so it completely exits your system after a few breaths of normal air.

ProNox® is not a replacement for a local anesthetic, although nitrous oxide does have an analgesic effect. What happens during the time when a patient uses the ProNox® system is that the central nervous system slows down in terms of responsiveness. A natural byproduct of this is the enhancement of other pain medications. Patient comfort is a high priority to us, and we have elected to incorporate ProNox® as a way to complement the effects of local anesthetic.
Relative contraindications for Nitrous Oxide include: Pulmonary disease, respiratory infections, pregnancy, psychiatric disorder, compromised immune system, multiple sclerosis, use of marijuana or hallucinogenic drugs, blocked middle ear, high anxiety, exposure to Nitrous Oxide within the last week.
